Wa’el Awad is an associate professor of traffic engineering finished his higher education in the United States (University of Colorado at Denver UCD, 1997). Worked for Colorado TransLab/UCD before returning to Jordan and worked for Al Balqa’ Applied University (BAU) from 1998 to date.

Dr. Awad spent five years (2008 – 2013) at Al Ahliyya Amman University (AAU), established two new departments (Civil engineering and Architecture) with undergraduate programs. In addition, with collaboration with EU partners and through TUMPUS program, a new master program in intelligent transportation systems (ITS) was established. Dr. Awad served as the Dean of Engineering from 2011 to 2013 at AAU.

Dr. Awad blended his professional experience in addition to education, with transportation and traffic consultation, either as a freelancer or as a full time consultant. Dr. Awad provided consultancy in education and transportation/traffic engineering for local, regional, and international clients. Dr. Awad is actively reviewing for many international journals in the fields of transportation and safety.

Dr. Awad has been active in training and capacity building, with focus on traffic safety, traffic operation and management. Dr. Awad conducted training programs for local and national institutions in Jordan; Palestinian; Lebanon; Yemen; and Azerbaijan.

Dr. Awad research interests are in traffic safety; traffic control and operation; artificial intelligence applications in transportation engineering; human behavior in transportation; pavement management and traffic modeling, with more than thirty publications in refereed journals and international conferences.
